EUCHL SEASON OPENS IN SEVEN DAYS AS EUROPEAN COLLEGE HOCKEY PREPARES FOR PUCK DROP
The countdown is on. With just seven days remaining until opening weekend, the European Union College Hockey League (EUCHL) is preparing to drop the puck on a new season that brings together student-athletes, universities, and hockey communities from across Europe.
The 2026–27 season begins Saturday, October 17, with an opening weekend featuring two exciting matchups: the Bratislava Capitals taking on the Lodz Legion, while the Prague Guardians face the Brno Lions. Four teams will take to the ice to begin a season built around competition, international education, and the development of college hockey opportunities in Europe.
For the players, opening weekend represents the culmination of months of recruiting, preparation, travel, and commitment. For the league, it marks another important step in building a European college hockey model that combines competitive hockey with the opportunity to pursue an internationally focused university education.
A DIFFERENT PATHWAY FOR STUDENT-ATHLETES
The EUCHL offers North American and European players an opportunity to continue their hockey careers while pursuing higher education in Europe. By connecting hockey programs with university opportunities, the league is working to create a pathway that brings together athletic development, academic achievement, and international experience.
For players coming from Canada and the United States, the opportunity to study and compete in Europe offers a different perspective on college hockey. Student-athletes can experience a new culture, develop independence, and build international connections while continuing to compete in the sport they love.
The league's broader vision is to establish a sustainable college hockey structure that can expand to additional university communities and provide more student-athletes with opportunities to combine education and hockey.
OPENING WEEKEND: OCTOBER 17–18
The opening matchups will put four of the league's programs in the spotlight as the new season gets underway.
Bratislava Capitals vs. Lodz Legion — An opening-weekend matchup between programs representing Slovakia and Poland.
Prague Guardians vs. Brno Lions — A Czech Republic matchup that will help launch the league's new campaign.
With the opening weekend approaching, teams are completing their final preparations and getting ready to turn preseason work into regular-season competition.
BUILDING THE FUTURE OF EUROPEAN COLLEGE HOCKEY
The EUCHL's long-term objective extends beyond the results on the scoreboard. The league is focused on building partnerships with universities, developing sustainable team operations, and expanding opportunities for student-athletes who want to combine competitive hockey with a university education.
As interest in international education and alternative hockey pathways continues to create opportunities for players, the EUCHL aims to establish a distinctive place in the European hockey landscape.
Seven days from now, the preparation ends and the competition begins.
The EUCHL season starts October 17. The countdown is on.
